Water & Sanitation

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

Clean water and safe sanitation are not just necessities—they are fundamental human rights. At CERADF, we work at the grassroots level to empower communities and individuals with the tools, infrastructure, and knowledge needed to secure safe water supplies and maintain dignified hygiene standards.

Our WASH initiatives are designed to reduce waterborne diseases and improve the overall quality of life across Africa through sustainable, community-led action.

Our Core WASH Focus Areas

  • Sustainable Water Supply: We facilitate the development of community-managed water points, focusing on rainwater harvesting, borehole protection, and sustainable extraction methods.

  • Total Sanitation Solutions: We promote the construction and use of climate-resilient latrines and waste-containment systems to eliminate open defecation and protect local groundwater.

  • Hygiene Behavior Change: Through targeted education, we promote essential hygiene practices, such as consistent handwashing with soap and safe household water storage.

  • WASH in Schools & Public Spaces: We work to ensure that schools and community centers have the necessary facilities to support the health and dignity of children and the public.

How CERADF Empowers Communities

We move beyond simply providing hardware; we build the social systems that keep water flowing and communities healthy:

  1. Community Water Committees: We train local leaders to manage, maintain, and repair water infrastructure, ensuring long-term project sustainability.

  2. Point-of-Use Treatment Training: We teach households various methods for treating water at home—such as solar disinfection, filtration, or boiling—to ensure safety from the source to the cup.

  3. Sanitation Marketing: We support local artisans in developing affordable, high-quality sanitation products, creating a local market for hygiene solutions.

  4. Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM): We provide education and resources to ensure women and girls can manage their health with dignity and stay in school or work.

Why WASH Matters with CERADF

Contaminated water and poor sanitation are leading causes of preventable illness. By focusing on empowerment, CERADF ensures that communities aren't just recipients of aid, but are the active guardians of their own health. We believe that when a community gains control over its water and sanitation, it gains the foundation for economic and social prosperity.

"Water is life, but clean water is health. At CERADF, we empower communities to take the lead in securing a safer, cleaner, and more dignified future for every individual."

Join us in bringing safe water and dignity to every household.
